Presenter Information
The November 21, 2008 Tutor/Mentor Leadership and Networking Conference will held at the Field Museum, 1400 S. Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, Il. This is part of a shared effort to increase the ways that museums, businesses, hospitals and universities in Chicago and other cities make a difference in the communities that surround them. Staff from the Museum will be presenting workshops, and participating in panels. All workshop space has been donated by the Museum.
The agenda shown on this web site shows the type of workshops and panels we want to offer. If you would like to participate in a panel, or suggest a different topic, read the information below and use the on-line form to submit your proposal if you would like to take part in a future conference. Contact the T/MC to discuss your idea.
As a speaker we hope you will look at this conference as part of your own commitment to helping inner city youth connect with tutors, mentors and extra learning, in a long term effort aimed at helping these youth move through school and into jobs and careers. Each workshop is intended to be a networking activity, in which we encourage you to share information about your organization, and ideas that others can put to work in their organizations and communities.
Speakers interested in volunteering to present workshops at the November 21, 2008 Conference should keep in mind:
- Workshops should focus on ways volunteer-based tutor/mentor programs can improve quality, build capacity and succeed for the long-term.
- Topics include volunteer recruitment and training, learning strategies for adolescents and teens, fundraising, evaluation and management activities. See our list of suggested workshop topics that have been requested by participants at previous conferences.
- Speakers are encouraged to stay for the full day of the conference on which they do a workshop. They do not pay a fee for that day. If you plan to attend the second day of the conference, you do need to register and pay the one-day fee. Contact the T/MC with any questions about fees or scholarships.
