Expanded workshop descriptions. At workshops are finalized we will expand the descriptions below to provide more information to those who plan to attend, or to those who cannot attend, but still want to learn from the speakers who will participate.
If you'd like to present a workshop at the November 21, 2008 conference, or be part of one of the tutor/mentor program panels described below, email tutormentor2@earthlink.net to discuss your involvement. This schedule of workshops is subject to change without notification. While most of the workshops and panels will focus on Chicago, leaders from other communities are encouraged to attend and share your own knowledge, while borrowing ideas that can be applied in your own part of the country.Agenda - November 21, 2008 - One Day Conference

The Workshops described are goals and we are now recruiting speakers and workshop leaders. The actual schedule will change as we get closer to the conference. Panel Discussion: Volunteer Recruitment and Training Strategies from leaders of tutoring and/or mentoring programs. Leaders share strategies for recruiting volunteers from businesses, universities, professional groups who serve as tutors/mentors, and as board members, technology support, organizers, and capacity builders. network of business and philanthropic funding support for non-school tutoring,
mentoring, arts, technology and youth development programs.
Many donors are being recruited to
fund school improvement efforts. However, the network of donors supporting
non-school efforts is fragmented. Or is it?
Workshop: How to Inspire Kids to Learn, lessons learned from the Field Museum and cultural institutions.
Panel Discussion: Student Recruitment, participation and motivation tips, from panel of leaders of tutoring/mentoring programs.

Engaging Athletes and Celebrities as Advocates for Volunteer Based Tutor/Mentor Programs, panel discussion
In
this panel discussion current and former college and professional
athletes will ldiscussion ways athletes can draw attention and
support to volunteer-based tutor/mentor programs, and ways that they might work together to
build more consistent year-round support of all tutor/mentor programs
in their host city. College and professional athletes and
coaches are encouraged to attend. This

Panel Discussion: Evaluation strategies and best practices. How do different tutoring and/or mentoring programs show the impact of their work. Lessons from leaders of existing programs. Panel TBD
Workshop Tracks:
There will be 3 workshops available during each time slot with time between each for networking and information sharing among participants. The T/MC invites participants to think of the conference as a meeting place where they can bring a group who are interested in creating more tutor/mentor programs in a specific area, or in a specific focus area, such as health careers, technology, arts, etc. Thus, if you'd like to organize a single workshop, or a conference within the conference, please contact us online or call 312-492-9614
